Sailors are a superstitious lot. We are especially superstitious about naming a boat and require a ceremony to properly christen the boat or rename it, if it’s a used boat. The stakes are high: if you do not properly name/re-name your boat, you are doomed to a lifetime of bad luck! Maybe this was the cause for our semi-failed New Years’ trip? (no, not really but a superstitious person could definitely make that assumption!)
So, what is in a naming ceremony? The good news is that it’s not all that hard to accomplish. We had a branch with green leaves aboard, we said a few words, broke the bottle open, spilling the champagne on the bow, shared some of the champagne to the Four Winds, and uttered the magic words: “I christen thee O’Shinn Flyer!”
We hope OSF will help us see the world, take us on grand adventures, and bring us safely home!
